Your expert for frictional connections
TAS SCHÄFER GmbH is a leading supplier of high-precision frictional connections and coupling systems for industrial applications. With decades of experience and technological expertise, the company develops customised solutions for various industries, including wind energy, mechanical engineering and heavy industry.
A reliable connection
In the food industry, shrink discs and locking assemblies are indispensable components that play a crucial role in maintaining high hygienic and functional standards. These rustproof connecting elements not only guarantee a secure and reliable connection, but also contribute significantly to the efficiency and ease of maintenance of machines and systems.

Typical applications
- Agitators: Shrink discs and locking assemblies ensure a firm and stable connection of the agitator tools, which work under constant mechanical loads and in contact with liquids.
- Ice machines: In these machines, they ensure a secure connection of the rotating parts and prevent loosening or displacement, which is essential for constant and hygienic operation.
- Filling machines: Here they help to ensure the precise positioning and secure fixing of filling components, which is crucial for the accuracy and efficiency of the filling process.
By using our stainless steel shrink discs and locking assemblies, you can be sure that your machines and systems meet the highest requirements of the food industry.
Key benefits
Corrosion resistance
Our shrink discs and locking assemblies are made of stainless steel, making them ideal for use in the humid and often aggressive environment of food production.
Hygienic safety
Their smooth surface and precise fit prevent the accumulation of dirt and residues, making cleaning and compliance with hygiene standards easier.
High load capacity
They provide excellent torque and force transmission, making them suitable for heavy machinery such as agitators and ice-cream makers.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can the clamping screws be used?
We recommend replacing the clamping screws after each clamping process.
What advantage do shrink discs or collars offer compared to a classic keyed connection?
Compared to classic form-fit keyway connections, which always have a certain amount of play in the connection due to their design, frictional shaft-hub connections are designed to safely transfer the occurring loads even with alternating loads and load impacts. For example, internal shaft-hub couplings (locking assemblies) are used to secure pump impellers to shaft ends due to their compact design. The solution is very maintenance-friendly due to the good accessibility. Shrink discs can be easily mounted and then also dismounted without damage by using clearance fits between the shaft hub and the shrink disc. The three-part design is particularly advantageous here. The simple assembly and disassembly of the shrink discs simplifies the maintenance of the systems. All series of the shrink discs can also be made of stainless steel.
For which shaft diameters can shrink discs be manufactured?
TAS Schäfer manufactures shrink discs as standard for shaft diameters from 18mm to 920mm. These can transmit torques of up to 19,200kNm. Shrink discs from TAS Schäfer GmbH are available in a range of designs and versions. These are mounted on the hub and shaft from the outside. Starting with the classic three-part shrink disc (TAS 3071 or TAS 3081 series), which consists of two outer rings and one inner ring with opposing conical surfaces, there is also a two-part design (e.g. TAS 3171 or TAS 3371). Compared to the three-part shrink disc, this consists of a pressure ring and an inner ring. Here, too, the conical surfaces are arranged opposite each other. When the clamping screws are tightened, the outer rings are pushed axially onto the inner ring, creating pressure. The inner ring is radially compressed and presses the hollow shaft onto the inner shaft.
