Today at wetter-Wengern to approximately 8,000 m2, with a staff of 35 highly-developed products of the drive and damping technology to be manufactured for our global customer base.

As an ISO 9001 certified company, we ensure from the development to the finished product with the utmost quality and reliability. We rely on modern methods and are constantly looking for opportunities for optimization of our Assembly and test procedures.

Many of our products from companies such as Germanischer Lloyd, Lloyds Register, or other, must be tested and certified. For this purpose, we create the design, calculations, tolerance analysis, and application of calculations for our customers.

We deliberately seek dialogue with our customers to make their experience and suggestions for improvement in new products.

At our company headquarters in weather are Wengern, we are able to, all manufactured parts to a comprehensive quality control.

TAS Schaefer Company history

A family company with a long Tradition.

In the third Generation, we develop since 1961, innovative products for drive and damping technology. Here, we look back on a long history, Initially the company dealt with the production and Assembly of components for hydraulic powered roof supports, and was focused on the regional mining industry.

In the following years, the production of products of drive technology has been established and further developed. Due to the emergence of an industrial production for shrink discs and clamp sets the company’s focus has shifted more and more to drive technology. Own products, such as, for example, the hydraulic shrink discs have been developed, and as a world-wide Patent pending. As a result, the TAS Schäfer GmbH, set global Standards in the area of the Friction contact.

Meanwhile, we supply together with our representatives throughout the world with innovative products of the drive and damping technology.

1961

Foundation

In 1961, Helmut Schäfer founded the company Ing. Helmut Schäfer, Machinen-und Apparate bau. The company initially focussed on the manufacture and assembly of components for hydraulic hydraulic stepping equipment.

1972

Drive technology

In 1972, after Udo Schäfer, the founder's son, joined the company, the drive technology production division was expanded. Helmut Schäfer Vertrieb GmbH, founded on 8 March 1973, took over the distribution of the products. In 1975, the company BIKON-Technik, Welle-Nabe-Verbindung, Helmut Schäfer GmbH was founded.

1976

BIKON-Technik, Welle-Nabe Verbindung Müllenberg & Schäfer GmbH was founded in December 1976.

1979

Schäfer GmbH Technik für Antrieb und Steuerung was founded in 1979.

1980

In 1980, Werner Winkelhaus †, the inventor of the shrink disc (DBP 1 294 751), granted the company a right of joint use for industrial production.

1995

Following an application in 1995, TAS Schäfer Antriebstechnik GmbH was granted a worldwide patent (EP 0 812 397) for the production of hydraulic shrink disc connections. Udo Schäfer and our employee Harry Oppenländer † played a key role in the development.

2006

The company has been called TAS Schäfer GmbH since 2006.

2010

Expansion of production areas and investment in new machinery at the Wetter-Wengern site.

2015

Managing Director Udo Schäfer opened TAS Schäfer GmbH's own measuring centre for quality assurance. A milestone for the globally recognised TAS Schäfer quality standards.

2016

Christian Kurz has been supporting the TAS Schäfer GmbH team as Sales Manager since 1 January 2016 and also represents the 3rd family generation within TAS Schäfer GmbH.

2018

Under the management of Rolf Gertner, TAS Schäfer GmbH launches a new flange coupling (FKE-SERIES) on the market. This enables the use of hydraulic tools to save assembly time.

2020

With the new TAS 3381 and TAS 3393 series, TAS Schäfer GmbH is launching two new shrink discs onto the market. These are characterised by an optimised design and higher transmittable torques.

2023

By investing in a photovoltaic system, we are strengthening our site in Wetter and setting the course for the future energy procurement of our production.

2024

The new SHS PA series (hydraulic shrink discs) is launched on the market. With numerous optimisations, the assembly and disassembly process is further improved and we set new standards, especially for smaller nominal sizes.
