Stainless steel products

What are stainless steel products?

Stainless products are characterized by their high corrosion resistance. This property is achieved through the use of stainless steels and other corrosion-resistant materials. The most important properties include

  1. Corrosion resistance: Protection against rust and oxidation.
  2. High strength: Stainless materials are robust and durable.
  3. Resistance to chemicals: Suitable for use in chemically aggressive environments.
  4. Hygienic properties: Ideal for applications that require high hygiene standards.

Advantages of stainless products in mechanical engineering

The use of stainless products has numerous advantages:

  1. Durability: Stainless steel products have a longer service life and reduce maintenance costs.
  2. Cost efficiency: Less frequent replacements and lower maintenance costs lead to cost savings.
  3. Safety and reliability: Prevention of rust formation increases the operational safety and reliability of the machines.
  4. Aesthetics: Stainless steel products retain their attractive appearance for a long time.

Areas of application for stainless products in mechanical engineering

Stainless products are used in many areas of mechanical engineering:

  1. Food and beverage industry: Use in systems that must meet high hygiene standards.
  2. Pharmaceutical industry: machinery and equipment for the production and processing of medicines.
  3. Chemical industry: Use in corrosive environments and with aggressive chemicals.
  4. Maritime applications: Equipment and structures that are constantly exposed to salt water.

Types of stainless products in mechanical engineering

There are different types of stainless products that can be selected depending on the application and specific requirements:

  1. Stainless steels: Most commonly used for general engineering applications.
  2. Stainless steel screws and fasteners: For secure and durable connections.
  3. Stainless steel pipes and fittings: In fluid technology applications.
  4. Stainless surface coatings: For additional protection of components and structures.

Choosing the right stainless products

The selection of suitable stainless products depends on various factors, including the specific requirements of the application, the operating conditions and the chemical stresses. Engineers must carefully consider these factors to find the optimum solution for their needs.

The right choice of material is very important for shaft-hub connections. Stainless steel in particular offers a variety of possible applications in the field of stainless steel constructions. Shaft-hub connections made of stainless steel are increasingly being used in industry today. One reason for this is that the demands placed on components in certain industries are becoming ever more stringent, while at the same time the machining of stainless steels has become easier. Stainless products in drive technology are characterised in particular by their resistance to chemically aggressive substances and are therefore increasingly being used in the food and packaging industries, maritime technology, laundry technology and laboratory equipment. In general, stainless products are used wherever increased risk of corrosion and purity are important criteria.

The standard stainless steel we use is 1.4122, which is a stainless, martensitic steel with good resistance to corrosion and very good wear resistance. If the product is to be used in a more aggressive environment, 1.4571 is the preferred material. This austenitic stainless steel offers very good corrosion resistance and is also suitable for low temperatures and elevated temperatures up to 550°C.

However, it should be noted that despite good mechanical properties, products made from stainless steel achieve lower transfer values than comparable products made from standard materials such as 42CrMo4+QT. In addition to the mechanical properties of the steels, the mechanical properties of the tensioning screws are decisive for this. The strength values of stainless clamping screws are significantly lower than the strength values of high-strength steel screws. As a rule, however, the transmission values of stainless products are sufficient for their use. If this is not the case, customised solutions can be implemented quickly and easily.

Corrosion-resistant products

TAS Schäfer GmbH offers all stainless steel products in its portfolio, from clamping sets to 2-part shrink discs / 3-part shrink discs and shaft couplings, as an alternative to stainless steel.
